I just spent 5 and 1/2 hours in the outskirts of Queens with a person whose acquaintance has chanced me through the ever-reliable LiveJournal.
Didn't even cross my mind LiveJournal could function as some sort of portal that bridges dimensional gaps.
And, as different as Mel and I are, I don't use "dimensional gap" loosely. However, the conversation was steady, and we did lay Buffy the Vampire Slayer as a mutual foundation. We watched two episodes, commenting throughout.
5 and 1/2 hours passed really quickly. She happened to bring the Buffalo weather to New York City. It might have been stowed away in one of her carry-ons. Rain. Thanks A LOT.
The talk wasn't heavy, but it was extremely comfortable. Usually not my style on first encounters. I'm normally quite shy. Mel made it easy, though. I've a feeling that comes pretty naturally to her.
When it came time for her go to her gate, I charged her to be careful, just like her mom and the rest of her friends. It was great meeting her. I kept asking her questions, and she kept firing answers back at me, just as quickly.
I've still a googillion questions to ask her. Foolish of me to think 5 and 1/2 hours was enough.
We're friends, though. There'll be other times. For sure.
Thanks for the introduction, Ray. You created a monster. A four-legged, really short monster.
